November: UN Charter and Diplomacy For Peace dignity and equality on a healthy planet
Why we celebrate United Nations Day? United Nations Day, on 24 October 2022, marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. So at this time of year we will look again at the United Nations Charter for peace and peacekeeping. This session will be led by Bert Moore, a UNA-GL Trustee. Bert has extensive experience of police and justice systems and will challenge our thinking and understanding of national and international issues and events.

October: SDG 9 Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
UN SDG 9 This will be a round table discussion with an opening presentation. The current challenges around economic growth and living standards are said to be dependent on industry and infrastructure but this impacts on all other SDGs. The UN statement around SDG9 says 'A functioning and resilient infrastructure is the foundation of every successful community. To meet future challenges, our industries and infrastructure must be upgraded. For this, we need to promote innovative sustainable technologies and ensure equal and universal access to information and financial markets. This will bring prosperity, create jobs and make sure that we build stable and prosperous societies across the globe.' It leaves national and community leaders to explore how best to make this happen.

September: UN SDG Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
UN SDG 5 "Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large."

July: UN SDG Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns : Circular Economy
UN SDG 12: Sustainable consumption and production is about promoting resource and energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all. Its implementation helps to achieve overall development plans, reduce future economic, environmental and social costs, strengthen economic competitiveness and reduce poverty. We will be exploring Circular Economy thinking and will be led by Uche Ugwu, who works with BGB Innovation, a Lincolnshire Business with an International client base.

May: SDG 17 Partnership For the Goals . 'We can only achieve together'
This seminar will be led by Dan Clayton, Sustainability Manager at Lincolnshire County Council. Sustainable Development Goal 17 is about "partnerships for the goals." One of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015, the official wording is: "Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development". Dan is a very experienced Sustainability Manager with a demonstrated history of working across public and business sectors. He is skilled in Sustainable Development, Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Energy Policy, and Carbon Management.

SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. This session will be introduced by UNA GL Trustee Dr David Whittaker who will welcome Dr Fabio Pulizzi as our keynote presenter. Fabio has extensive experience in this field and is the Chief Editor of Nature Water. 'Clean water is at the heart of society. Achieving a sustainable use of water resources will require the integrated contribution of natural science with technical and social sciences.' Fabio Pulizzi. Goal 6 seeks to ensure safe drinking water and sanitation for all, focusing on the sustainable management of water resources, wastewater and ecosystems.

March: SDG 8 : The systematic alignment of purposeful workplaces to our global agenda.
This is a joint UNA Greater Lincolnshire and UNA Harrogate event. Clive Wilson MSc FCIPD FCMI (UNA Harrogate Chair) is author of a number of books including “Designing the Purposeful World – the Sustainable Development Goals as a blueprint for humanity”. He is a consultant with Primeast Ltd in Harrogate where he specialises in Purposeful Leadership, which he defines as “consciously creating the conditions for a better future”. He is also visiting lecturer on Purposeful Leadership with a number of universities and business schools in the UK and overseas. In this workshop, Clive will discuss the importance of SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) as a lever to the delivery of the full suite of UN Sustainable Development Goals. Linked to this, we will explore the nature of purpose in the workplace, especially in the context of the significant challenges facing humanity, from pandemic to climate change. We will examine society’s response in the form of five major disruptions to the world as we know it and the prevailing workplace global agenda, now principally in the form of the seventeen SDGs. In concluding, we will be challenged to articulate how we are aligning to the better future we all need and desire.

This seminar will focus on all aspects of Hunger and will give the opportunity to discuss what we can all do do address this goal. Chaired by Clive Wilson (UNA GL) the seminar will feature a presentation and discussion with Ifeyinwa Kanu, founder and CEO of IntelliDigest Ltd. Ifeyinwa is leading IntelliDigest on a mission to empower global food sustainability, eliminate food waste, zero hunger and improve access to nutrition for everyone through technology innovation and capacity building.

January: UN Sustainable Goal 1 End poverty in all forms everywhere
UN SDG 1 End poverty in all its forms everywhere. More than 700 million people, or 10 per cent of the world population, still live in extreme poverty today, struggling to fulfil the most basic needs like health, education, and access to water and sanitation, to name a few. As we start a new year it is a good time to reflect on small and big issues locally, nationally and internationally. This seminar will introduce a range of issues around poverty and the discussion after will give the opportunity to consider possible actions to recommend. The seminar will be led by Clive Wilson (Chair, UNA Greater Lincolnshire) and Sue Fortune (CEO, Lincolnshire Community Foundation) Lincolnshire Community Foundation was founded in 2002 and is dedicated to serving the diverse county of Lincolnshire; delivering positive environmental/societal change and, most importantly, positive outcomes for people and places. To date (2022) they have distributed over £14M to over 4,000 charities, community groups and organisations throughout Greater Lincolnshire, with emphasis on small grants delivering a big difference. These grants have helped groups tackle issues such as child poverty, loneliness and isolation, food poverty, homelessness, access to services, addiction, unemployment and many other unique and individual needs that exist across Lincolnshire’s places.

Migration
The session was led by David Whittaker, and Martina Castiglioni from the UN Institute of Migration. At the IOM Martina works to support agencies and government across the world to seek ways to humanly deal with all aspects of migration. The IOM was set up in 1951 by the UN. In 2019 it was engaged in supporting 30 Million migrants across the world. David has extensive professional experience in education and is a trustee of UNA-GL. The theme is very topical, dealing with Migration and Refugees.

COP 26 What resolutions are needed
This session was recorded just before COP 26. The Conference of Parties (COP) held its 26th session in Glasgow in December 2021. Its prime focus was 'Climate Change' and what all Nations should agree to do to mitigate and adapt to reduce impact and build sustainability. The session allowed the group to join a round table discussion on 'what WE want from COP 26'

Greater Lincolnshire UNA was pleased to host Mark Fenty for the 8th seminar in its series on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He agues that sustainable energy is key to all development needs of humanity and planet in the 21C. In particular local communities have a key responsibility to engage with action to develop community placed based solutions.

Closing the Digital Divide
This session was focussed on the challenges at international and local level that are created by the advancement of digital technology. If individuals, businesses and communities cannot connect digitally they loose opportunities for learning and earning. In addition the ownership and control of the world wide digital technology also brings challenges.

This seminar featured Clifford Spencer and Andrew Ormerod. It gives and introduction and exploration of a wide range of challenges in addressing Biodiversity. It has particular reference to the way we produce and consume our food, and highlights new approaches to sustainable food production.

This fascinating presentation features Janice Spencer and Professor Phillip Leigh. As well as opening up the nature of challenges observed across all our oceans, it gives a picture of what can be done to help humans live more sustainably.

Education and the Sustainable Development Goals
This session was introduced by Jane Salt, a very experienced educational professional working in schools and with OfSTED, and Clive Wilson, Chair UNA GL and an educational consultant. The challenges facing schools across the UK ( and across the world) are significant, and are heightened by the spread of COVID 19. The seminar focuses on what can be considered by schools and their communities to embrace the concepts of sustainable development and prepare students for life and work in the 21C.

Climate Change: Net Zero is Not Enough! - John Firth of Acclimatise Online seminar
This was our Launch Challenge Seminar. John Firth is an internationally recognised professional dealing with climate change, adaptation and mitigation. His experience includes working at the highest level with businesses and governments around the world. His chosen title 'Net Zero is not Enough' is a clear statement to all that there needs to be dramatic and exponential change in human activity to address the Climate Change Crisis. This session is in January 2021, in December 2021 the COP26 event will be taking place. We all have a responsibility to learn about what should and can be done and use our democratic powers to influence change.

United Nations Conference in Collaboration with Lincoln University at Lincoln University
This event is postponed. More information will be added soon. This day event is designed for year 12 students. The aims are to raise the debate about the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and enable students to discuss and establish resolutions for submission and voting to the 'UN Assembly' in the afternoon. It will challenge students to think creatively about how to make a difference in the world they will inherit.
